Mallorca care director post goes to Muro councillor

Margalida Ballester Bauzà will take over Mallorca’s community care and personal independence department in Palma on 1 September 2026. The Muro Town Hall councillor replaces Catalina Maria Mascaró Bestard, who is leaving the post for professional reasons. Ballester will remain a councillor in Muro alongside her new island role.

The Consell de Mallorca says the department has grown significantly in recent years, particularly through the expansion of its SAID scheme, an integrated home-care service.

Years in Muro public life

Ballester has spent more than seven years in municipal and institutional administration. From 2019 to 2022, she held responsibility in Muro for tourism and beaches, commerce, markets, transport and civil protection.

She then served as second deputy mayor from 2022 to 2026, with responsibility for tourism and beaches, the environment and culture.

She keeps her Muro council seat

Ballester has been PP spokesperson in Muro since 2019 and has sat on the Balearic PP’s board and executive committee. Between 2023 and 2026, she was assigned to the party’s parliamentary group service.

In 2026, she also became executive secretary for organising minutes for the Mallorca PP’s island board. Ballester called the new role “a very important challenge” and said she wanted to put her public-management experience at the service of social policy and those who need it most.
