Mallorca cloudy as mainland storms trigger alerts

Mallorca, in Spain’s Balearic Islands, faces thick cloud on Tuesday, while rain, storms, wind and rough seas put seven regions of mainland Spain under weather alerts. The Spanish State Meteorological Agency, Aemet, expects moderate easterly winds across the Balearics, with little change in temperature.

Orange alerts cover rain and thunderstorms in Barcelona, Girona and Tarragona, rain in Castellón and Valencia, and high waves in A Coruña. On the Catalan coast and nearby inland areas, cold air high above the ground could bring strong or very strong storms in the first half of the day. Downpours may be torrential in places, with isolated hailstones larger than two centimetres. Aemet says an isolated waterspout or small tornado could also form near the coast.

Later, an Atlantic weather front approaches from the west. It could bring persistent rain, heavy in places, especially to Galicia. For Mallorca, the forecast remains cloudy rather than stormy.
