Mallorca party accuses Sánchez of election gamble
Mallorca’s housing squeeze and crowded roads are part of a new election row: Coalició per Mallorca says Pedro Sánchez has called Spain’s general election when it suits him, not voters. In a statement on 5 October 2026, the party accuses him of putting his electoral chances ahead of people’s needs. It says an unstable parliamentary term has made it hard to build firm majorities.
Housing pressure and airport plans
The party says Mallorca has fared badly under the central government. It criticises the way the Balearic Islands are funded and says population growth has added costs for public services, housing and infrastructure without an adequate response from Madrid.
Coalició per Mallorca points to the island’s housing shortage and congested roads while airport operator Aena plans to increase airport capacity. It argues that Madrid keeps pushing for more people and passengers without considering how much pressure Mallorca can bear.
A fight over Mallorca’s voice in Madrid
The party also targets Balearic Islands MPs who backed the central government. It says they had leverage when their votes were needed but failed to secure results for Mallorca.
Coalició per Mallorca says the election is a chance to decide who will defend the island’s interests in Madrid. It plans to bring its leadership together in the coming days to settle its election strategy.
