Mallorca heat warning: 38°C forecast for Sunday

Mallorca faces temperatures of 36°C to 38°C on Sunday as a yellow heat warning takes effect across the Balearic Islands. The warning runs from 12.00 to 19.00, with the Serra de Tramuntana the only area of Mallorca outside it. Spain’s state weather agency Aemet expects the highest readings across the islands.

The night has offered little relief in Mallorca and Menorca, where minimum temperatures were on average 2°C to 3°C above normal. Formentera was also warmer than usual, while Eivissa stayed close to normal.

Balearic emergency service 112 has also issued a yellow alert. Under Plan Meteobal, this is severity level 0. The service urges extra care because of the risk of heatstroke and fires.

Keep out of the hottest sun

112 advises people to seek shade, cover their heads, wear light clothing and drink plenty of water. It also recommends light meals, sunscreen and keeping windows and shutters closed during the hottest hours.

Physical exercise should be avoided between 12.00 and 16.00. The service also advises against alcohol and caffeine, and says children, older people and animals must not be left in cars with the windows closed.
