Mallorca is under an orange weather alert for heavy rain and thunderstorms on Friday, 18 September. Ibiza and Formentera are also on orange alert, while Spain’s State Meteorological Agency, Aemet, warns that downpours could become locally very heavy on Mallorca. Significant rainfall totals are possible, with storms accompanying the showers.

Heavy showers expected early

Unsettled weather is set to hold over the Balearic Islands through the first half of the day. Cloudy skies and showers are forecast, with Mallorca and Ibiza and Formentera the places most likely to see the heaviest bursts of rain.

Murcia is on a yellow alert for rain and storms. Yellow rain alerts also cover Almería, Granada, Barcelona, Alicante and Tarragona.

Clouds expected to thin later

Skies are generally expected to become less cloudy as the day goes on. Maximum temperatures in the Balearic Islands are not expected to change.

A moderate northerly wind is forecast across the islands. Northerly winds are also expected along the Galician coast and the eastern coast of the Spanish mainland.
