Mallorca housing plan: PP and Vox vote against it
Mallorca’s housing crisis is at the heart of a 6 October vote: PP and Vox vote against a proposal to let mayors designate housing-stressed areas across the Balearic Islands. The Socialists want mayors to make that decision for their own municipalities. In Spanish, the designation is called a zona tensionada.
Rosario Sánchez, deputy leader of the Socialist Party of the Balearic Islands (PSIB), accuses the PP of siding with speculators and what she calls “vulture funds”. The PSIB says the Balearic regional government does not want to designate such areas itself.
In the Balearic Parliament, Socialist spokesman Iago Negueruela criticises regional president Marga Prohens and her ministers for missing the start of the debate. He also accuses the government of refusing to discuss limits on rents. The source does not give the bill’s final outcome.
