Mallorca gets northeast wind as Spain faces 38ºC heat

Mallorca is set for a moderate northeast wind on Wednesday, 23 September, while heat alerts cover parts of mainland Spain and the Canary Islands. Badajoz is forecast to reach 38ºC, with Córdoba, Ourense and Seville heading for 37ºC. Spain’s State Meteorological Agency, Aemet, expects dry weather and mostly clear or lightly cloudy skies.

Windy conditions for Mallorca

Mallorca and the rest of the Balearic Islands will see a moderate wind from the northeast. Moderate winds are also forecast for the Galician coast and Ampurdán, while the Cantabrian coast gets a northerly wind.

Elsewhere, winds should remain light, mainly from the north and east. The Alborán Sea is forecast to have a moderate easterly wind, strengthening at times in the Strait.

Heat alerts across Spain

Aemet has issued heat alerts for Seville, Badajoz, Cáceres, A Coruña and Ourense, as well as Gran Canaria, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura. Temperatures will rise in the Canary Islands, with a notable increase expected on the west coasts of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura.

More than 35ºC is forecast in areas on the southern Atlantic side, as well as in parts of Galicia and Las Palmas province on Gran Canaria. Temperatures will edge up in southern Spain, the upper Ebro and the western Pyrenees, but are expected to fall along parts of the western Cantabrian and Valencian coasts.

The Canary Islands should be mostly clear or have high cloud. Aemet also forecasts possible calima, a haze in higher air, and does not rule out an isolated shower on Teide.
