Mallorca orange alert: heavy storms due on Friday

Mallorca is under an orange weather warning on Friday, with heavy rain and thunderstorms forecast. Spain’s State Meteorological Agency, Aemet, has issued the same-level warning for Ibiza and Formentera. Cloudy skies and showers are expected during the first half of the day.

Heavy showers possible

Aemet says showers could become locally very heavy in Mallorca and the Pityusic Islands, the group made up of Ibiza and Formentera. Thunderstorms may accompany the rain, with significant accumulations possible.

Skies are expected to clear in many areas later in the day. But the orange alert remains the key warning for Mallorca on Friday.

Northerly wind continues

Daytime highs are set to remain unchanged across the Balearics. Moderate northerly winds will blow across the islands.

Almería, Granada, Barcelona and Tarragona are under yellow rain warnings.
