Mallorca is under an orange weather warning for rain and thunderstorms on Wednesday, 9 September, with yellow alerts also in force for wind and waves. The same orange warning covers Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera, according to Spain’s state weather agency, AEMET. A passing front is expected to bring unstable weather, with thunderstorms developing or spreading across the Balearics during the afternoon.

Storms and strong gusts expected

AEMET says the afternoon storms may bring very strong wind gusts. Tramontana winds across the Balearics could also produce very strong gusts.

Morning haze is possible in the Balearics. Maximum temperatures are forecast to fall generally across the islands and most of mainland Spain.

Waves remain under yellow alert

Yellow wave warnings cover Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera. Mallorca and Menorca also have yellow wind warnings.

Menorca has a separate yellow warning for rissagas, a local sea-level phenomenon. The orange alerts for Mallorca and the other islands remain focused on rain and thunderstorms.
