On the Spanish island of Mallorca, migrant boats are becoming an election issue: Llorenç Galmés chairs a People’s Party (PP) island committee meeting on Tuesday ahead of Spain’s 29 November general election. The party says it is bringing its campaign work together and backing its national leader, Alberto Núñez Feijóo.

Galmés says the PP has a presence across Mallorca and knows the concerns of people on the island. He singles out irregular migration and the arrival of boats carrying migrants, calling on Spain’s government to take responsibility and protect the borders.

He calls the November vote decisive. Mallorca’s PP, he says, will work to make Feijóo Spain’s next prime minister.
