Mallorca, in Spain’s Balearic Islands, tops 20 litres of rain per square metre from 7 to 13 October. Yet rainfall across the islands since early October remains generally below normal, Spain’s State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) reports on 16 October.
Across Spain, rainfall since the start of the hydrological year in early October totals 33 litres per square metre, against a normal 30 litres per square metre for the period. Much of the centre, north and east of mainland Spain has had more rain than usual, while large parts of Galicia, Andalusia and Extremadura have had less.
