Mallorca stays at 32–34C as storm risk builds

Mallorca is set to reach 32 to 34 degrees on Wednesday as temperatures fall more widely across Spain. Showers are possible in the Balearics, while locally strong thunderstorms could develop by Friday.

Spain’s State Meteorological Agency, Aemet, expects the general dip in temperatures to be sharpest in the north. Mallorca and the other Balearic Islands are expected to remain hot despite the change.

Cold air aloft brings unsettled weather

A front and a vaguada — cold air high in the troposphere — are behind the shift. Aemet says the system will bring rain to northern Spain and thunderstorms to eastern parts of the mainland, some locally strong.

Meteored España also expects showers in the Balearics on Wednesday. On Thursday, the unsettled weather could move towards the islands and the Valencian Community.

Friday brings the bigger storm threat

The outlook becomes less certain on Friday. Meteored España says its most likely scenario is for locally strong thunderstorms in the Balearics and intense downpours between Alicante and Valencia.

Where storms are most active, the service warns of sudden rises in water, strong wind gusts, hail and isolated waterspouts. Some showers may still remain in the Balearics on Saturday.
