The storms are linked to the weather system known as Dana Adam. On mainland Spain, Pego in Alicante province recorded 632 litres per square metre of rain in 36 hours. Almost 430 litres per square metre fell in just six hours.

The worst weather on Monday afternoon is forecast for eastern Catalonia. Parts of Barcelona and Girona provinces could receive more than 100 litres per square metre in less than twelve hours, Aemet spokesman Rubén del Campo said.

For the Balearic Islands, the outlook improves on Tuesday afternoon, when rain is expected to stop apart from a possible isolated shower on Menorca. Wind is forecast to return on Wednesday.
