Mallorca storms: 30 l/m² rain threat on Friday

Storms return to Mallorca on Friday, with yellow alerts covering the Balearics for up to 30 litres of rain per square metre (l/m²) in an hour. Rain could affect northern Mallorca in the morning. Showers are then forecast to continue into the afternoon, especially on Mallorca, Ibiza and Formentera.

The weather portal Eltiempo.es expects storms to ease across the Balearics in the coming hours on Thursday. Intense storms could then return around the islands overnight into Friday.

Ibiza and Formentera face orange warnings as storms may strengthen again there. More than 50 l/m² could fall in an hour, with hail and strong winds also possible. Eltiempo.es says the wider weather system is gradually moving east away from Spain, although locally heavy rain may still develop.
