Mallorca travel discounts: agencies demand faster payouts
Mallorca residents’ travel discounts are at the centre of a call for faster subsidy payments. The Spanish Confederation of Travel Agencies (CEAV) put the demand to Spain’s new government on 26 October as part of a list of 12 priorities. It also wants quicker payments for discounts covering the Canary Islands, Ceuta and Melilla.
The agencies are pressing for changes to Imserso, the senior travel programme. They want more places, a better booking system, a fairer share of trips and revised financial terms for agencies taking part.
CEAV also wants travel agencies exempted from rules requiring them to record travellers’ details. It calls the obligations disproportionate and questions whether they comply with European data protection law.
Another dispute concerns air ticket refunds. CEAV objects to agencies having to return their commission when a ticket is refunded, even if they have already advised the customer and issued the ticket. It wants Spain to challenge those provisions at the Court of Justice of the European Union.
