Mallorca university: Over 75% in work after a degree
Mallorca: More than 75% of bachelor’s graduates from the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB) have a job a year after finishing their degree. The Balearic government’s Department of Labour, Public Service and Social Dialogue released the figures in Palma, Mallorca, on Friday, 30 October. They come from a Labour Observatory review covering graduates from the 2016-2017 to 2023-2024 academic years.
Two years after a bachelor’s degree, the employment rate is around 80%. The university awarded 2,722 qualifications in 2023-2024, up 8.3% on the previous year.
Four degrees pass 90%
Health sciences, engineering and architecture have the highest employment rates a year after graduation. Labour relations, building, protocol and organisation, and nursing each have rates above 90%.
But having a job does not always mean working full-time. Among employed bachelor’s graduates, 17.6% have part-time contracts, compared with 13% of all workers registered under the general Social Security system.
Master’s graduates gain ground
Employment rates also rise over time for master’s and doctoral graduates. Among those who completed a master’s degree in 2022-2023, security services leads after one year at 88.9%, followed by teacher training at 83.7%. Both exceed the 78.4% average.
Three years after completing a master’s or doctorate, 78.5% have contracts in the highest Social Security contribution groups. The review treats those jobs as matching their level of training.
