Mallorca weather: 32 degrees as shower risk fades

Mallorca, in the Balearic Islands, is heading for a mostly sunny weekend, with temperatures reaching 32 degrees on Sunday. A few light showers may still break out on Friday afternoon in the island interior and again on Saturday, according to the State Meteorological Agency, Aemet.

On Friday, 11 September, clouds may build over inland Mallorca and Menorca, bringing showers expected to have little impact. Aemet’s Balearic Islands delegate, María José Guerrero, says the wider outlook remains settled, with clear or only lightly clouded skies.

Saturday brings highs of 27 to 31 degrees across the archipelago, while night-time lows fall to between 13 and 21 degrees. Nights will be cooler inland and in the Serra de Tramuntana.

Clouds may build again on Saturday afternoon, especially over the Serra de Tramuntana and southern Mallorca. Any showers there are expected to be minor.

The clouds form when cold air sits higher in the atmosphere while winds from different directions meet near the ground, Guerrero said.

Sunday is set to be sunny, with no such cloud build-up forecast. Highs of 28 to 32 degrees will put the Balearic Islands above the usual level for this time of year, although Guerrero said it will not be a hot day and described the temperatures as pleasant.

Monday should stay much the same, with sunshine and little change in temperature. Aemet expects highs of 29 to 32 degrees, with inland Mallorca likely to see the highest readings.
