Mallorca weather warning: orange alert for rain and storms
Mallorca, in the Balearic Islands, is under an orange weather warning for rain and thunderstorms on Friday, according to the State Meteorological Agency. Strong to very strong storms, with very strong wind gusts, are expected during the early hours, while warnings for rough seas are also in force.
Menorca is also on orange alert for rain and thunderstorms. Ibiza and Formentera have yellow rain warnings, and all four islands are subject to coastal wave warnings. Menorca additionally faces a warning for rissagas, sudden sea-level changes in enclosed harbours.
Storms overnight and further showers later
The State Meteorological Agency said an upper-air trough moving across the area will favour intense thunderstorms in the Balearic Islands overnight into Friday. Further showers accompanied by thunderstorms may develop across Mallorca and the other islands during the afternoon.
Temperatures are forecast to fall noticeably across the Balearic Islands. Winds are expected to be moderate from the south.
