Mallorca lacks centres for children with behaviour problems
Children with behaviour problems in the Balearic Islands, including Mallorca, have no specialist centres. Instead, they live alongside young people working towards educational integration, Spain’s State Prosecutor General’s Office says in its 2025 annual report, published on Thursday, 10 September.
The office calls the shortage worrying. It says putting the two groups together makes work with both of them considerably harder.
Mental health support also needed
The report also calls for mental health programmes for children and teenagers. It says both residential and outpatient support is needed.
Thousands of age checks unresolved
Across Spain, prosecutors opened 7,999 cases in 2025 to establish the age of undocumented foreign nationals. By 31 December, 3,904 remained unresolved.
The office blames the backlog on a lack of staff and material resources. It says large numbers of unaccompanied migrant children arrived mainly through the Canary Islands and Ceuta, which were declared to be in a migration emergency.
