Malta tourism summit: 200 travel chiefs tackle AI

More than 200 travel industry leaders gather in Valletta, Malta, from 7 September until 9 October for the 26th World Travel & Tourism Council summit. Artificial intelligence, investment and the next changes facing tourism are at the centre of the meeting.

Spanish companies have a strong presence. The delegation includes Iberostar’s Gloria Fluxà, Barceló Hotel Group executive chairman Simón Pedro Barceló, Meliá Hotels International chairman and chief executive Gabriel Escarrer Jaume, and Piñero global chief executive Encarna Piñero.

They are joined by Ángel Gallego of Amadeus IT Group, Enrique Ybarra of City Sightseeing Worldwide and Turespaña director general Miguel Sanz. Senior figures from Hilton, IHG Hotels & Resorts, Four Seasons, Marriott International, MSC, Trip.com Group, Expedia Group and American Express Travel are also due to attend.

The summit brings together hotel groups, airlines, cruise companies, travel technology businesses, travel distributors and destination investors. Its programme looks at how technology and AI are changing the sector, alongside shifting customer expectations and geopolitical change.

Delegates will also discuss public-private cooperation, innovation, competitiveness, sustainability and investment. The stated aim is to help tourism grow through future shocks and prepare the industry for the changes ahead.

For Malta, the gathering is a chance to put its tourism offer, connections, infrastructure and investment potential in front of influential industry decision-makers.
