Mallorca: Man flees with baby after reported assault

Palma, Mallorca: Police stop a man running with his six-month-old daughter in a pushchair after her mother says he hit her and took the baby. Officers spot him near the Estadi Balear at around 18.00 on Wednesday, the National Police say.

The woman alerts officers on patrol, who see the man running in the distance. They catch up with him after he tries to hide the pushchair between two cars. Police say he resists them and tries to get away with the baby.

The mother tells another patrol that her former partner came to her home to see their daughter, despite a restraining order against him. She says he then hit her and pushed her several times as he left with the pushchair.

Police return the baby to her mother and arrest the man. He is taken to a police station on suspicion of breaching the restraining order, domestic abuse and child abduction.
