Mallorca trial: 27 years sought in Manacor rape case

A man goes on trial on Thursday accused of raping his stepdaughter at least once a week over 15 years in Manacor, Mallorca. Prosecutors are seeking 27 years in prison and €30,000 in compensation. The Second Section of the Balearic Islands Provincial Court hears the case at 10.00.

Allegations date back to 2003

The alleged abuse began no later than 2003, when the girl was 13, according to the prosecution. It says the defendant used times when he was alone with her to subject her to sexual touching at least once a week.

From 2005 until 2008, when she reached adulthood, he is accused of raping her weekly. The prosecution alleges that he also hit her, threw her against furniture and insulted her.

It further alleges that the abuse and mistreatment continued for another decade, until 2016, because she was unable to react after years of repeated assaults.

Prison term and compensation sought

The public prosecutor has requested a 27-year sentence for continuous rape and sexual assault. It also wants the defendant to pay €30,000 compensation.

According to the prosecution, the woman suffered anxiety, a serious disruption to her personality development and extreme suffering.
