Mallorca egg recall urged over Manacor salmonella risk
Mallorca: Animal welfare groups want eggs from a farm in Manacor taken off supermarket shelves over fears of salmonella. Arde and Satya Animal sent their demand to the Balearic government's Directorate-General for Public Health on Wednesday, 21 October 2026. They also want a warning for people who have the farm's eggs at home.
What the farm footage shows
The groups released footage on Tuesday from both sheds at Avícola Son Perot's Mirabó farm in Manacor. They say it shows sick hens, dead birds, eggs with mites and cockroaches. They reported the conditions to the Balearic Islands public prosecutor's office and the regional Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Natural Environment.
Agriculture minister Joan Simonet sent inspectors to the farm. He said the sheds had been empty for just over a week by then, at the farm operators' initiative.
Salmonella found in one shed
Simonet said salmonella was detected in one shed in August 2025. The farm was authorised to turn eggs from that shed into liquid egg, while the other shed continued supplying supermarkets.
Arde and Satya Animal fear salmonella may have spread to the second shed. No finding of salmonella there has been reported. A veterinary report they sent to the health authority warns that decaying carcasses beside live birds, along with mites and other infestations, pose infection risks. The groups' statement gives no decision from the authority on an egg withdrawal or public warning.
