Maó care home with 120 places cleared to open
120 places for older people needing care in Maó, Menorca: the Quarter de Santiago care home can now begin operating after building work was completed. The Council of Government of the Balearic Islands issued the declaration allowing it to start on Friday, 6 November 2026.
The home stands in the former Santiago barracks, on a 6,100-square-metre site provided by Maó town council. Its 120 places are spread across 108 rooms. The government says the completed work matches the project approved by the Council of Government on 15 February 2021.
The government will submit its declaration and details of the completed project to Maó town council and the Consortium for Social and Healthcare Resources and Assistance. The town council can still inspect and check the home, and impose sanctions if necessary. Final social services authorisation from the island council is also still outstanding.
