Mapfre takes €235m in Balearics, plans two offices

Mapfre took nearly €235 million in insurance premiums across the Balearic Islands in 2025, up 8% on the previous year. The insurer plans to open an office in Petra, Mallorca, in the first half of October, followed by another in Manacor before the end of the year. Regional director Javier Olías said Mapfre already has more than 70 offices across the islands.

The company says the new branches support its aim of having an office within 15 minutes of customers’ homes or workplaces. Olías said personal contact still matters to customers, even as digital services and artificial intelligence speed up responses and improve efficiency.

More than 104,000 vehicles insured

Mapfre now insures more than 104,000 vehicles in the Balearic Islands. This year it also launched cover for electric scooters designed around the new rules affecting the vehicles.

The insurer’s health business is now its largest line in the islands, with more than 55,000 customers and premiums above €71 million. Mapfre and Sanitas are also backing a new hospital in the Portixol area, which Olías said would respond to population growth, add options for consumers and ease pressure on existing services.

Mapfre puts its share of the Balearic business insurance market at nearly 31.4%. Olías said firms are particularly concerned about absence from work, developing staff and keeping customers loyal.
