Ibiza race walker Marc Tur retires after Olympic fourth
Ibiza, in the Balearic Islands: race walker Marc Tur is retiring after finishing fourth in the 50 kilometres walk at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Balearic Islands government president Marga Prohens paid tribute to him on Sunday, 25 October, after he announced his retirement.
In a post on X, Prohens recalled Tur’s Spanish, European and world titles, as well as his award as Spain’s best male athlete of 2021 and the Gold Medal of the Royal Order of Sporting Merit. She praised him for training as a doctor while competing at the highest level, and for promoting visibility and equality in sport. Those efforts, she said, made him a role model for many young people.
