Mallorca: Balearic Vox MP María José Verdú dies at 58
Balearic Vox MP María José Verdú has died at 58 after a long illness: in Palma, Mallorca, politicians from other parties pay tribute to her on 23 October 2026.
Balearic president Marga Prohens remembers Verdú as warm and attentive to others. In a post on X, she says Verdú looked for common ground on health and changes to the tourism model. Prohens offers her condolences to Verdú’s family, friends and Vox colleagues.
Balearic minister for Tourism, Culture and Sports Jaume Bauzá says Verdú’s death hurts him beyond politics. They held different views, he writes, but spoke with respect and affection. He also praises the way she faced her illness.
The Balearic Parliament sends condolences to Verdú’s family and friends. Tributes also come from the PP and the socialist PSIB. PSIB MP Marco Antonio Guerrero says that, despite their political differences, Verdú was a kind colleague who never had a harsh word for anyone.
