Ibiza rent protest: around 150 back evicted Maricarmen

Around 150 people rally in Eivissa, Ibiza, on Sunday for Maricarmen, an elderly woman evicted in Madrid. They want rental contracts to continue without a fixed end date.
The Tenants’ Union called the protest as part of demonstrations across Spain. It says the public response to Maricarmen’s eviction has pushed politicians into talks on a housing decree due for a vote on Tuesday.
In Eivissa, the union also wants measures to prevent evictions and a freeze on current rents. It is calling for tenancy law to cover seasonal and room rentals, effective extensions to leases and automatic renewals that would make all contracts open-ended.
