Mallorca's Marilles puts Pablo Rodríguez Ros in charge

Fundació Marilles has appointed marine scientist Pablo Rodríguez Ros as its new director on Friday, 11 September. He takes charge of the foundation’s work to protect the Balearic Sea, while former director Aniol Esteban moves into strategy and fundraising after nine years at the helm.

Marilles said the reshuffle is designed to strengthen its leadership team and structure as the foundation grows. It also aims to secure the resources needed to drive marine conservation in the Balearic Sea.

Rodríguez Ros previously led Marilles’ strategy for marine protected areas and its 30x30 targets in the Mediterranean. His background also includes research, institutional advice and consultancy, as well as connecting science, institutions and society to support evidence-based policy.

He said he was taking on a well-established project with a major legacy and plans for the future. Marilles’ stated mission is to make the Balearic Islands a world reference point for marine conservation.

Esteban, a marine biologist and environmental economist, will now focus on strategic development and raising funds. He said the new phase should bring Marilles and marine conservation closer to its supporting people and institutions.
