In Palma, Mallorca, the Partido Popular (PP) is pushing for discounts of up to 15% on marina port fees across the Balearic Islands. The party presents 28 amendments on 2 November, ahead of the 29 November general election. Its transport spokesman, Héctor Palencia, wants a change in maritime policy after the vote.

Fees, moorings and port rules

The PP also wants stronger legal protections for marinas and changes to mooring management, which it says currently makes their daily work harder. Other amendments would simplify administrative procedures and set rules for electrical infrastructure in ports.

For marinas on Mallorca, these are proposals, not fee cuts or rule changes already in force.

A row over maritime policy

Palencia says Transport Minister Óscar Puente has neglected the maritime sector. He argues that it receives too little attention from the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility.

José Vicente Marí, the PP’s lead congressional candidate in the Balearic Islands, credits the regional government led by Marga Prohens for progress in the sector. He accuses the central government of holding up proposed changes to the 2014 laws on ports and maritime navigation for two years.
