Mallorca’s port of Palma is set for a 15.4 million euro marine research building on its old quay. Spain’s cabinet authorised the Spanish National Research Council to build it on 20 October 2026. The new building will house the Balearic Oceanographic Centre.
The Spanish government’s delegation in the Balearic Islands says the project aims to strengthen research in the western Mediterranean. It is also intended to bring the centre into closer cooperation with the University of the Balearic Islands and other research bodies. No construction start date has been announced.
