Over-58 chefs get a 32-hour week on full pay
Kitchen staff over 58 at Balearic hotel chain MarSenses Hotels & Homes are set to work 32 hours a week while keeping 100% of their salary. The change applies to employees who have been with the company for at least three years. MarSenses announced the move in Madrid on 9 September 2026.
The shorter week gives eligible kitchen workers 5.5 extra hours of free time each week. It extends a measure the company had already introduced for housekeeping staff with the same age and service record.
MarSenses says the plan is designed to adjust working conditions for employees nearing the end of their careers, helping them move gradually towards retirement. Managing director Rodrigo Fitaroni said experienced staff should have more personal time without a cut to their pay, as the chain pursues better wellbeing and work-life balance.
