Mallorca's Mas keeps Vuelta lead as Landa wins stage

Mallorca rider Enric Mas held on to the Vuelta lead at the Collado del Alguacil on Saturday as Mikel Landa won the penultimate stage. Landa took stage 20, a 186.8 km ride from La Calahorra to the mountain finish, in Güejar Sierra. Austria's Felix Gall pressed Mas late on but could not dislodge him from the top of the overall standings.

Wout van Aert and Ivo Oliveira made an immediate move after the neutralised start. They were 45 seconds clear after 14 km, before Uno-X Mobility raised the pace and split the main group.

Movistar Team then put Iván Romeo and Raúl García Pierna to work for Mas. Richard Carapaz launched repeated attacks on the Puerto de El Purche, forcing Gall's Decathlon CMA CGM team to respond as it protected his provisional third place.

Landa caught the remaining breakaway riders and then dropped Tobias Johannessen on the climb to the Collado del Alguacil. He finished in 4h58:01 for his fifth Grand Tour stage win.

Mas crossed the line 6:54 minutes later, while Primoz Roglic was 7:32 minutes behind Landa. Despite Gall's efforts, Roglic kept second place overall behind the Mallorca leader.
