Mallorca: Masked men abduct three 18-year-olds in Inca
On Mallorca, five masked men attack three 18-year-olds asleep in a square in Inca and force them into car boots. The attack happened overnight from Thursday to Friday last week, according to sources close to the investigation. The men got out of two cars carrying sticks and beat the three young men before driving them to an empty plot, where they beat them again and stole their belongings.
Injuries and a search for suspects
One of the young men was stabbed in the leg, according to Cáritas Mallorca. All three needed hospital treatment. Their injuries included a broken nose, several broken fingers and head wounds that needed stitches.
After leaving hospital, they reported the attack to the Civil Guard with Cáritas staff beside them. The force’s judicial police unit is searching for five suspects. Investigators are looking chiefly at whether the attack was a settling of scores, sources close to the inquiry say. For now, they have ruled out a racist motive.
No suitable home after leaving care
The three young migrants are now recovering in accommodation run by Cáritas. They were previously in state care but had no suitable place to live after turning 18, the charity says.
Cáritas says young migrants leaving care often lack enough family, social or housing support. It is asking the responsible authorities and organisations for more resources to help them make the move into adult life.
