Mallorca: MPs seek reports on possible mass arrivals

Palma, Mallorca: Balearic MPs want Spain’s government to share intelligence and security-force information on possible mass arrivals of irregular migrants to the islands. They approved the request on Tuesday, 29 September. It also covers possible increases in arrivals and other exceptional cases that could affect the Balearics.

The request came from the People’s Party, which added it to a Vox motion about Ceuta. It is the second similar proposal debated by the Balearic parliament in two weeks. The motion also rejects any Moroccan claim to Ceuta, Melilla or other Spanish territory.

Vox spokeswoman Cañadas called Ceuta a warning of what could happen to the Balearics. People’s Party MP Cristina Gil drew a comparison with Formentera. Opposition MPs objected: Teresa Suárez of the Socialist Party of the Balearic Islands called the motion a “pamphlet”, while Josep Castells of Més per Menorca called it a “waste of time”.
