Mallorca court scraps Son Vida sports zoning in Palma
On Mallorca, Palma must change four parts of its development plan after a court strikes out the sports designation for an 8,500-square-metre plot in Son Vida. The Balearic Islands High Court ruled that the city had not adequately explained why its 2023 plan removed the building and tourism uses previously allowed on the land. On Tuesday, 6 October, city planning councillor Óscar Fidalgo said Palma would comply with the ruling.
The plot lies between Vinagrella Street and Son Vida Square. With the sports designation overturned, the land returns to the classification in the earlier plan.
Three other sites need corrections. At the Son Vida water depot, the plan identified private land as city-owned and marked it for water infrastructure that, the court said, had never existed. The Fincas de Son Quint can no longer be classed as a park near the city: they must be listed as an area of forestry interest and other wooded land. In Son Puigdorfila Vell, a plot loses its landscape-interest classification and becomes general rural land.
Fidalgo said the ruling was part of a continuing series of judgments against the plan. He blamed the previous city government for drawing it up in haste.
