Mallorca: 11 Manacor pharmacies to flag medicine problems
Mallorca’s 11 pharmacies in Manacor are set to flag problems with patients’ medicines to the local health centre under a pilot scheme. Announced on 9 October, the scheme is aimed at public health patients over 14 who have an individual health card and take ten or more medicines. The Balearic Official College of Pharmacists is working on it with the Balearic Health Service, IbSalut, and the Balearic health department.
When a pharmacist spots a problem, they will contact staff at the health centre. The agreed procedure has three routes: immediate, priority and routine. Priority and routine reports will go through the Sigma electronic prescription system. Cases needing an immediate assessment will use other channels, such as TeleAP or InfoSalut. The health professionals responsible for each patient will assess the information and decide what happens next.
Pharmacies can see patients without an appointment, and their on-call system can help pharmacists spot difficulties with medicines during everyday care, the college says. That is particularly useful for people with chronic illnesses and complex treatments. After the Manacor pilot, the plan is to extend the reporting system to health areas on Mallorca, Menorca, Eivissa and Formentera.
