Mediterranean weather: Sunday showers before 30ºC week

Possible showers could reach the Mediterranean on Sunday before temperatures there barely reach 30ºC next week. Meteored España meteorologist José Antonio Maldonado gave the outlook on Wednesday, 24 September. No separate forecast for Mallorca was provided.

Much of Spain is expected to stay sunny and settled at first. But an Atlantic front is due to spread across northern and western Spain on Sunday, bringing rain to Galicia, Asturias, the Basque Country and La Rioja, with more scattered rain elsewhere.

A deep low-pressure system west of the Iberian Peninsula could then strengthen quickly between Monday and Tuesday. Maldonado said it would bring further rain, wind and a wider fall in temperatures.

The Mediterranean may only just reach 30ºC during the first days of the week. Night-time lows on the northern plateau are expected to fall below 10ºC, while the Pyrenees could see the season's first frosts.
