Meliá plans 350 rooms and suites on Roatán for 2029
350 rooms and suites on Roatán, Honduras: Balearic hotel group Meliá plans a new resort on the island for 2029, alongside 145 residences with hotel services. Meliá Hotels International announced on Tuesday, 27 October 2026, that it had signed the project, named Meliá Roatán.
The plans include restaurants, a beach club, a wellness area and spa, shops, and spaces for meetings and events. Meliá is developing the resort with businessman Piero Dibattista. Its tropical-inspired design will offer access to the waters of the Mesoamerican Reef System, the world’s second-largest barrier reef.
Meliá already has a foothold on Roatán. Less than a year ago, Media Luna Resort & Beach Club joined its Affiliated by Meliá network; it is due to operate as Sol Roatán. The group says it is exploring further opportunities in Central America, including Costa Rica, Panama, Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras.
