Menorca housing and flights drive left-wing Senate bid
Affordable housing and better flights lead an election pitch on Menorca: a four-party left-wing alliance wants the island to be easier to afford and better connected. Menorca al Senat set out its pledges on Wednesday, 21 October, ahead of the general election on 29 November. Former Menorca island council president Joana Barceló leads its Senate bid.
Homes, transport and public services
The alliance brings together PSOE, Més per Menorca, Esquerra Unida and Podem. Its manifesto calls for homes people can afford and air and sea links that cost less, run more reliably and meet the needs of residents and businesses.
It also wants stronger health, education, care and social services, along with better working conditions as living costs rise. The parties pledge to protect natural areas and water resources, support local producers and preserve farming on the island.
Who is standing
Joan Albert Pons and Rosa Palliser are Barceló’s substitute candidates. Pons teaches at IES Pasqual Calbó and sits on the leadership bodies of Ara Maó and Més per Menorca. Palliser heads CEIP Francesc d’Albranca primary school and is a member of Esquerra Unida’s coordinating body.
The alliance has also unveiled an election committee and campaign board to organise its work in the coming weeks.
