Mallorca: 4,000 pupils lose mental health support
About 4,000 pupils on Mallorca are set to lose the Flip Up mental health programme this school year after an administrative processing error stopped it continuing. MÉS per Mallorca demanded answers from the Council of Mallorca on Tuesday after the Mental Health Federation criticised the halt. The party says the Council announced in June that Flip Up would continue, but now wants to know why it could not be guaranteed.
What the programme delivered
Last school year, Flip Up — Dona la volta a les teves emocions — reached about 4,000 pupils at 30 educational centres. It ran 424 workshops promoting emotional wellbeing and preventing mental health problems.
After taking part, 213 young people asked for professional help or emotional advice. MÉS spokeswoman Catalina Inés Perelló said the scheme had reached thousands of teenagers and prompted more than 200 to seek support.
Council faces demands for answers
MÉS has asked Council of Mallorca president Llorenç Galmés for a clear explanation and political accountability. It wants to know how the programme was handled, when the error was found, who was responsible and why its continuation was announced in June.
The party has called on the Council to do everything legally possible to restore Flip Up during this school year. It also wants answers on what the cancellation means for the professional teams who have lost their jobs.
