Mallorca mental health: 1,000 call for care rethink
Mallorca: Around 1,000 people gather in Sineu on 8 October 2026 to call for a bigger role for social organisations in mental health care. The Mental Health Federation organises the event for World Mental Health Day. Its message is that recovery takes more than medical treatment.
In a statement read at the event, the federation says social organisations are an essential part of mental health care in the Balearic Islands, not an optional extra. Its president, Guillem Febrer, calls for medical care and the work of those organisations to be seen together, rather than set against each other.
The federation’s six member organisations helped 1,545 people last year. Their 392 professionals and other workers provide help with employment, housing and support, as well as prevention and awareness work.
Balearic Government minister for Families, Social Welfare and Care for Dependants Sandra Fernández attends the event, alongside Spanish Congress president Francina Armengol and Sineu mayor Tomeu Mulet.
