Mallorca keeps mental health workshops after 4,000 pupils
After taking part in Mallorca’s mental health workshops, 213 pupils asked teachers, school counsellors or other professionals for emotional support or advice. Mallorca Council (Consell de Mallorca) is now continuing the FLIP-UP programme in the 2026-2027 school year after it reached more than 4,000 young people in its first year.
The programme ran 424 workshops at 30 educational centres across Mallorca, with 4,007 pupils taking part. It focuses on self-awareness, self-esteem and expressing emotions, as well as dealing with stress, anxiety and anger.
Pupils gave the sessions an average score of 4.2 out of 5, while teachers rated them 4.6 out of 5. The first-year assessment also recorded a better classroom climate, stronger cohesion among pupils and safe spaces to discuss emotional wellbeing.
Toni Fuster, Mallorca’s councillor for the presidency, said the 213 requests for help showed the value of taking mental health support into classrooms. The council is preparing a contract to put the programme out to tender, aiming to keep it running beyond the current school year and make it part of its youth policies.
