Mercapalma’s ownership is at stake in Palma, Mallorca: the city council has asked the Supreme Court to delay a hearing so it can keep talking with Mercados Centrales de Abastecimiento (Mercasa). The council said on Tuesday, 27 October 2026, that it wants more time to seek an agreement. Mayor Jaime Martínez discussed the move with Mercasa president José Miñones at a meeting about the company’s future.

The dispute centres on Mercapalma’s statutes, the rules governing the company. According to the council, they provide for its assets and liabilities to pass to the city 50 years after it was founded. The council and Mercasa disagree over how that provision applies, and the council went to the Supreme Court to defend its position on ownership.

Since the concession ended, the two sides have held several meetings to look for common ground. The council says the requested delay would let those talks continue.
