Mallorca row: MÉS demands Galmés drop party politics
MÉS per Mallorca will send a protest letter after accusing Llorenç Galmés of using a Diada de Mallorca awards ceremony to attack the opposition. The row centres on his speech at the 2026 Premios, Honores y Distinciones ceremony in Palma, Mallorca, on 13 September. MÉS says the president of the Consell de Mallorca should return to an institutional role.
The party says Galmés used his address to turn an official event into a political confrontation. Its spokeswoman in the island council, Catalina Inés Perelló, said the Consell president should represent all of Mallorca rather than only those who share his views.
Perelló said the lectern at an institutional ceremony should not be used as a platform for the PP. She argued that the audience and those receiving awards included people with different beliefs, ideas and opinions, reflecting Mallorca's plural and democratic society.
MÉS says it raised the same concern three years ago. In its letter, the party will call on Galmés to respect the island's political and social diversity and stop using institutional events to confront the opposition.
Perelló said Galmés was entitled to make political arguments as PP president, but had a duty to represent everyone when speaking as head of the Consell de Mallorca.
