Ibiza gets €127,488 for methadone and addiction care
Ibiza, in the Balearic Islands, gets €127,488 for addiction care in 2026, including methadone for people using its treatment units. The Balearic Government approved agreements with the island councils of Ibiza and Formentera on 6 November 2026. Formentera, also in the Balearic Islands, gets €40,000 to part-fund prevention programmes from 2026 to 2029.
Methadone and earlier help on Ibiza
The Ibiza agreement covers the preparation and supply of methadone for people using addiction treatment units, known as UCA. It also calls for staff to gain access to new digital patient records, a minimum range of services and standard procedures for care.
Another measure would help staff spot addiction problems early and intervene with vulnerable children and teenagers. Professionals working in addiction care would receive training.
Formentera focuses on prevention
On Formentera, the plans centre on prevention programmes in schools and work across the wider community. Professionals there would also receive addiction training.
The agreements form part of the Balearic Islands’ comprehensive addictions plan for 2025 to 2032. The health department says it aims to prevent drug use and other addictions while improving care for people affected.
