€5.9m targets Mallorca water pipes in Migjorn

Mallorca’s Migjorn is lined up for €5.9 million of water works, from replacement drinking-water pipes to a new storage tank. The Balearic Government unveiled the plans in Santanyí, Mallorca, for Campos, Felanitx, Llucmajor, ses Salines and Santanyí. The money comes from the 2025 budget of the Sustainable Tourism Tax, known as ITS.

The package targets ageing pipes, leaks, rainwater drainage and water reserves. The government says the work should help the towns deal with everyday demand as well as drought and heavy rain.

Pipes, drainage and a new water tank

Santanyí receives €1.65 million to renew 2.35 kilometres of drinking-water network in Carrer Bernat Vidal, Carrer des Cos and Carrer de Cal Reiet. Carrer Bernat Vidal is also due 557 metres of new drainage network and three sustainable urban drainage systems.

Campos has €680,338 for work on Carrer Nord, including 328 metres of drinking-water, rainwater and sewer networks. Felanitx is allocated €921,664 for more than 1.1 kilometres of drinking-water, sewer and drainage lines in several streets.

Llucmajor has the largest allocation, €2.1 million. A project will be drawn up to bring sewers and renewed drinking-water pipes to Cala Pi, Vallgornera and es Pas de Vallgornera, while close to 2.2 kilometres of network are to be replaced in the town centre.

Ses Salines is set to get a new drinking-water tank costing €540,767. With capacity of around 600 cubic metres, it is intended to increase the town’s available reserve and strengthen supply security.

More water spending planned

The ITS annual plan for 2026-2027 sets aside €39.8 million more for water-cycle projects. Those plans include linking the desalination plant in the Bay of Palma to Marratxí, expanding the Andratx desalination plant, a new sea outfall on Formentera, a new treatment plant in Portinatx and improvements at Ciutadella Sud’s treatment plant.

Separately, the Balearic Islands Tourism Strategy Agency briefed around 15 travel-sector professionals in Madrid on the tourism tax and the projects it funds. The agency says the tax is currently financing around 300 projects worth more than €811 million.
