Mallorca: 69 migrants arrive in four boats across Balearics

At least 69 migrants have arrived in the Balearic Islands in four small boats, with one intercepted at Cala Llombards in Santanyí, Mallorca. The arrivals were reported on Friday, 25 September, after operations near Mallorca, Cabrera and Formentera. Spain’s Government Delegation in the Balearics said all those found were from the Maghreb.

The Mallorca boat was stopped at 20.30 on Thursday at Cala Llombards, in the municipality of Santanyí. It carried 16 people. Guardia Civil officers from Santanyí and Felanitx, the Command’s Citizen Security Unit and Santanyí Local Police took part.

Earlier that evening, at about 19.40, rescue teams brought 17 people ashore after finding them one mile south of Cabrera. The Provincial Maritime Service, Guardia Civil units from Felanitx and Santanyí, the Command’s Citizen Security Unit and Maritime Rescue were involved.

A further boat was spotted at Camí des Ram on Formentera at 23.15, carrying 18 people. Guardia Civil officers from Formentera and the Command’s Citizen Security Unit intervened.

The fourth arrival was reported at 4.35 on Friday, when 18 people were found six miles south of Formentera. Guardia Civil officers from San José, Maritime Rescue and Helimer aerial teams were deployed.
