183 migrants in 10 boats intercepted in Balearics

Authorities intercepted ten boats carrying 183 migrants in the Balearic Islands in a single day. Three of the boats were stopped later that night, near Ibiza and south of Formentera. The Government Delegation in the Balearic Islands reported the total.

The eighth boat was intercepted at 21:50 in Ses Salines, in Sant Josep de Sa Talaia on Ibiza, with 17 people of Maghrebi origin aboard. Civil Guard officers from Sant Josep de Sa Talaia, the force's Provincial Maritime Service and the local police took part.

At 22:20, another boat carrying 18 people of Maghrebi origin was intercepted 23 miles south of Formentera. The Fiscal and Border Section at Palma Port intervened.

The tenth boat was stopped at 23:05, three miles south of Formentera, with 20 people of Maghrebi origin aboard. The Provincial Maritime Service and Civil Guard officers from Sant Josep de Sa Talaia took part in that operation.

The other seven boats had arrived earlier in the day with 128 migrants aboard, bringing the day's total to 183.
