Mallorca PP leader backs deporting migrant repeat offenders
Mallorca: Marga Prohens calls for migrants who commit serious crimes or repeatedly offend to be deported. The Balearic People’s Party leader makes the demand at her party’s security forum in Inca on Saturday, 7 November. She also calls for more police and tougher laws.
Prohens says an entire community must not be treated as criminal. But people who come to commit crimes should not expect impunity, she argues in a statement issued by her party. She says residents, shopkeepers and families are worried about safety.
More police, but posts remain vacant
Prohens says 334 new local police officers have already joined during the current parliamentary term, with 659 expected by its end. A planned security centre, housing the Balearic School of Public Safety, would provide training for 200 new local officers each year.
She accuses Spain’s government of leaving 500 National Police posts and another 500 Civil Guard posts unfilled across the Balearic Islands. She also backs tougher rules on repeat offending and longer sentences for repeat sexual offenders.
Crime figures enter the election campaign
Congressional candidate José Vicente Marí says recorded offences across the Balearic Islands rose from 73,600 in 2018 to 84,600 in 2025 — an increase of 15%, according to his figures. He calls for a national security strategy and better working conditions for officers, including measures to help them live on the islands.
Prohens and Marí are putting those proposals forward ahead of Spain’s general election on 29 November.
